Squirtle grabs onto the branch frantically, staring down at his trainer through the beedrill. "Okay, squirtle! Spray them with water gun, direct them downward!"
As squirtle begins sending out a blast of water, Dirk turns to his companion. "I could your help, too. As soon as they're all low enough..." he turns to rhyhorn, "Take 'em out with a spread out rock blast!"

"Okay Mint! As soon as they are taken out with that Rock Blast, help out with Confusion!" She raised her fist up in the air and then brought it down to her side in exclaimation.

Beedrill growled, lowering themselves as a reaction to the spray of water and staring at the squirtle angrily. What they don't notice is how close to the earth they are; with a another heavy "THUMP!" rhyhorn unleashes rock blast, this time unburdened with fighting gravity.
A wave of dirt and rock barrages out, forward, striking the beedrill with heavy momentum; and just as they think to turn to rhyhorn, they're smacked by one last wave of confusion and collapse, having fainted.
"Great work." Dirk says, a slight grin. "We're not a bad team. Though..." he gazes up at squirtle, still grappling onto a tree branch with all four limbs nervously, "care to help squirtle down while I figure out where we're headed?"

"Um, sure." She looked up to where the tiny turtle was. She raised her index finger towards the Squirtle. "Mint, would you mind using Confusion to grab him and gently lower him to the ground. It would be very much appreciated."
"Lala kir~~~" Mint focused on the shelled water reptile high up above in the trees. A faint blue glow engulfed the target, and was gently lowered onto the ground.
"So, where are we headed, now?"

"Hm..." Dirk studies his compass carefully... "That way."
The direction he points is generally meaningless, since at this point there's just flat ground and trees in all directions.
"We're getting close," he says with a big grin. "Keep your eyes peeled for more beedrill, and stay close."
He considers thanking you for lowering squirtle, but on second thought decides to just keep going.

Kimiko gave Mint a small pat on the head for a job well done. She wasn't considering going off on her own, so she stayed pretty close to the group and kept the pace going. The Kirlia twirled as she walked, often giving off a slight hum. It doesn't seem like they are going somewhere substantial, since the area was flat ground and trees everywhere.

There's a quite a bit more walking, when suddenly Dirk comes to a stop--again.
"Aha!" Dirk grins wide, his gaze at the treetops. "Feel this tree," he says, motioning for you to touch it.
(Pause...)
"It's petrified! All the organic material has been replaced with minerals over geologic time... literally, the tree has turned to stone. I think it's a sign to start digging for fossils!" He snaps his finger, "Rhyhorn, over here, please." The rock/ground pokemon shuffles over slowly.
"PIKA!"
Suddenly both notice a short yellow pokemon, standing at a distance. It glares as you through round black eyes, its long, pointed ears back and lightingbolt shaped tail raised in suspicion.
"Uh-oh." Dirk says, "Looks like we've invaded this pikachu's territory. Kimiko... can you handle this one on your own? I'd really like to get digging." You can hear the anticipation in his voice.
And he adds, in a low murmur, "And... between you and me, rhyhorn can't use any ground-type attacks yet."

After awhile the guy had stopped, again. Dirk gave a grin and told Kimiko to feel the tree.
Kimiko walked up to the tree Dirk mention, running her fingers over the bark. It didn't quite feel like bark, and it was rather cold and stony. She gave a questioning look towards the archaeologist.

"Ah, gotcha." Kimiko turned to the small yellow rodent. "Do you think you can handle this one, Mint?"
"Kirlia." The tiny ballerina gave a twirl and a curtsy to her trainer.
The trainer pointed towards the Pikachu. "Okay Mint, give it your Magical Leaf!"

Pikachu goes running straight for the ballerina, but Kirlia does a graceful twirl, and a swarm of leaves are summoned to her side from nearby trees. Glowing with a pale blue psychic energy, they go flying, homing in the electric rodent.
Pikachu leaps to the side deftly, but the leaves make a sharp turn midair and strike it, sending the electric rodent rolling sideways. It manages to skid to a halt on its feet, then charges forward, blazing with anger, electric sparks flying along its body, getting dangerously close.

"Oh snap!" Kimiko exclaimed as the electric rodent started to close on in. A move name popped up in her head. Is it going for a Volt Tackle? It almost seems that way. Or is it just very electrically charged and is going for a different attack? No one could know for sure. "Mint, use Confusion!" The trainer called out in a moment's notice, the first move that came to mind after that.

Kirlia raises an arm, attempting to fight fire with fire, but just then pikachu bursts with energy, rushing forward and head butting kirlia in the legs. With a yelp kirlia stumbles back.
Quick attack had intercepted her counterattack; quickly, pikachu crouched low to the ground and raised its tail, electricity jolting from its cheeks and running up its tail, charging at its tip.

'Oh, this battle is a little more difficult than the one with the Beedrill swarm!' Kimiko thought as she looked at the Pikachu's tail tip, crackling ominously with electricity. "Mint, rollover and get back up, quickly! Then use Magical Leaf!"

Mint's timing is impeccable; pikachu's tail flashes and cracks with a tiny lightning bolt, which strikes the ground just as the kirlia rolls out of the way. Kirlia twirls back onto her feet, quickly sending a flurry of glowing auto-tracking leaves at the rodent.
They strike pikachu dead-on, and it stumbles back, a pained expression on its face. With a snarl it changes tactics, hopping back and forth lightly on its feet and watching the kirlia intently.

Mint would twirl and extend her arm toward the Pikachu, beckoning it with a 'come hither' kind of action. "Kir kirla ia."{Bring it on, hot shot.}
Kimiko observed the Pikachu briefly and commanded, "A Confusion, now Mint!"

With kirlia's taunt pikachu suddenly stops, considering whether or not to take the opening and attack... or if it was some kind of trap. It's hesitation dooms it; when it decides to begin charging electricity after an instant of thought, Kimiko had already commanded Mint to use confusion.
Thundershock is released in one direction while confusion blasts in the opposite. The small lightingbolt travels just over the wave of distortion, however, and with a flashy burst of electricity Mint is struck with thundershock, crying out briefly in pain.
Confusion, meanwhile, washes over the yellow mouse and sends it tumbling backward with a groan of pain. It seems to lay still on the ground momentarily, but leaps to its feet with a growl and shakes its head furiously, not willing to go down just yet. Kirlia shudders from the electric hit she took, but manages to keep her senses about her and glares at the pikachu.
