((This is a CLOSED roleplay for Dirk and Kimiko only))
"HELP WANTED."
All across Pewter City, on small fliers, the words "HELP WANTED" are posted in big, bold text. Curious passerby would be rewarded with the content of the flier; "Dirk Indiana, pokemon archaeologist, seeks a partner to come along on a trip deep into the Viridian forest for pokemon fossils. If interested, meet at the south gate of town at 2:00 PM sharp on Monday."
Many people had seen these fliers, but as Dirk stood, determined, at Pewter's City's south gate, it was 2:05 PM on Monday and apparently nobody had bothered to show up.
He glanced around, hopeful, waiting for somebody to appear...
((First person to reply gets the spot. After that it's a closed back-and-forth between Dirk and his companion.))

Kimiko was walking down one of Pewter City's streets. She was in no particular hurry, and was glancing idly at her surroundings, careful to avoid eye contact of others. She would be doing okay with that-
BONK
-if she was paying attention to where she was going.
A pair of brown eyes fluttered, gazing up at the lamp post she hit. Upon closer inspection, she could see a flier of some sort. She reached to grab it, and took it with her as she continued walking. Curious of what contents in may hold, she began to read it.
"HELP WANTED
Dirk Indiana, pokemon archaeologist, seeks a partner to come along on a trip deep into the Viridian forest for pokemon fossils. If interested, meet at the south gate of town at 2:00 PM sharp on Monday."
Well, Kimiko was certainly interested. It was a new experience that promised adventure. It was a chance to help someone, and she just LOVES to help. And it broke her boredom.
And then she suddenly realized that today is Monday...
..And looking at her Poketch, she saw that it was, indeed 2:00 pm.
"Ah... late." The girl stopped for a moment. "Maybe, I could still catch him!" She dashed towards the South Gate, and five minutes later, she saw a man standing near the gate. She slowed down a bit and approached him. Looking at his appearance, she guessed that he was the pokemon archaeologist from the flier.
Who else could it be? He was the only other person at the gate.
"So, Dirk Indiana, right?" Kimiko asked.

Dirk was just turning away from Pewter City when a young, girlish voice sounded out from behind him.
"So, Dirk Indiana, right?"
He stopped, then slowly turned back around to face this newcomer. She was small... very small. But she wasn't really young-looking, not at all. In fact, she was pretty for a young woman, though maybe a few years below Dirk's range.
He tipped his hat and nodded his head. "That's right, I'm Dirk. And who might you be?"
(pause for an answer)
"Are you here for my fossil expedition?"

The girl had to stand back a few feet in order not to crane her neck up to look at the man. She smiled and gave a slight bow when he asked for her name. "My name is Kimiko Wakana," she said.
He asked "Are you here for my fossil expedition?"
Kimiko nodded. "Yes, I am here for your fossil expedition. Err," She looked back for a second and quickly added, "Sorry I'm late, but I kinda noticed the flier at the time you wanted your partner to be here., heh heh." She chuckled a little nervously.

Dirk's stoic expression hardly twitched. "Sure, whatever, I'm just glad to have someone come along. I assume you've got some pokemon at your side, because I'll be needing their help."
He hardly waited for an answer before he turned and headed out the gate, giving a quick motion with his hand for Ms. Wakana to follow.

'Well, that was somewhat rude...' The girl thought as she started to follow Dirk.
Viridian Forest... She never went through there, before. What Pokemon would she encounter? What awaits her as she steps through the gate? Kimiko shivered in anticipation.
Her thoughts on her partner's attitude would have to be pushed far back into the depths of her mind- it seemed a bit less important now. She decided to have a little conversation going between them. "So, what kinds of pokemon fossils are you looking for?" Kimiko started, still walking.

The two slowly pass through a grassy field just south of town. Behind them is still Pewter city, clearly visible; to the east, a large cave system; to their south and west, looms the dark, green viridian forest.
As Dirk walked along he answered her question, without turning to face her. Slowly, as he spoke you could almost feel his excitement building as he discussed what he would be exploring today...
"There's an area in Viridian Forest far to the west that's virtually untouched. I'm hoping to excavate something from the dirt... fossilized bones, who knows? Best case scenerio, we discover a brand new specie of ancient pokemon."
And for this he turned his head back and gave a weak smile, "Though, the chances of that are extremely low."
As he faced forward again, he had his own question to ask. "So, why did you decide to come along with me, eh?"

Pleased with the conversation going, she answered, "Well, I was bored and wanted something to do. As I was walking down a sidewalk in Pewter, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and bumped my head into a pole. When I came to, I noticed a flier was hanging off of it. So I took the flier and read it. It seemed like something cool to do, since I've never really been in Viridian Forest before, much less ventured deep in it." She grinned. "And the whole thing screamed adventure! ADVENTCHAAR~!!" Kimiko exclaimed, punching the air with enthusiasm.

Well, I was bored and wanted something to do."Not much of planner, this one," Dirk thought to himself. And the whole thing screamed adventure! ADVENTCHAAR~!! Kimiko exclaimed, punching the air with enthusiasm.(((Totally makes me think of a female Riley Brennen))) Dirk chuckled quietly to himself. "Good. I could use someone with your enthusiasm. As long as you're sure you're prepared for this... it could be a tough trip. Can you handle a pokemon battle, if it comes down to it?" As you chat, you find the distance from Viridian Forest to Pewter City is surprisingly small. Dirk leads the way into the forest, a deep green shadow cast over everything from the thick patches of leaves above. You follow a thin, beaten path between the trees as you go farther and farther south. Suddenly, Dirk comes to a complete stop.

"A Pokemon battle? Is that all I have to worry about?" Kimiko asked rhetorically. Even though, she has never used her Pokemon in a real battle before, she saw a lot of them on television. It didn't look terribly hard, so what's the trouble?
Kimiko often turned her head to glance about the surroundings. As she had chatted, the girl found that the distance from Pewter City to Viridian Forest surprisingly small. Not that she minded, it meant that she would get to the forest without losing interest. As she followed Dirk into the forest, she looked around. Deep green was everywhere, and they went onto a narrow path that led further south.
And suddenly Dirk stopped.
Kimiko looked around in confusion, craning her head. "...Why did we stop?"

Dirk doesn't seem to hear you, scratching his chin thoughtfully.
"I think... I think..." He pulls a map from his pocket and nods.
"Kimiko, was it? We're going to go off the beaten path from here. I'd get your pokemon out, you'll likely need them at a moment's call once we go into the untamed wild."
With that he loosed two pokeballs off his belt; from each erupted a burst of light, and emerged a small blue turtle, squirtle, and a gray, rocky rhino named rhyhorn. Both casually observed their surroundings, glancing about and getting their bearings.

Kimiko looked at the two pokeballs on her belt. She took the first one off of her belt, held it up to her heart. She then twirled and said "Mint, come on out!" A bright flash of white came out of the spherical object as she released it up in the air. A figure formed and landed on the ground in a graceful matter. The Kirlia looked around, and beamed at the others.
"Kirla~!" Mint looked about to get used to her surroundings.

Dirk gave a light nod at the sight of the psychic ballerina... thing. "That looks like a pretty handy partner... you should be okay with her. Though... it does seem like you've done more work making her look pretty than actually strengthening her."
(Pause for an answer?)
Without furthur ado, Dirk steps out from the forest pathway, standing in the thick, untamed forest. "Okay," he says, "coast is clear... for now. Keep close by, watch my back, and squirtle will watch yours."
The blue turtles gives a jolly wave to you as it walks past you, standing close behind you. Rhyhorn, meanwhile, situates itself in front of Dirk and leads the way furthur in.

Mint grew annoyed when Dirk said that. "La kir kir kirLA!"
Kimiko chuckled a bit, then sighed. "That's not a very nice thing to say to him." The Kirlia made a face and resigned to her position beside her trainer. The girl whispered to Mint in her mind, 'He doesn't make the best of first impressions, and often doesn't realize when he's being offensive, so don't mind him. It's just how he is, I guess. But that doesn't stop us from ADVENTURE, now does it?'
Mint, hearing what her trainer thought, smiled again, turned to Kimiko and made a salute. "Kirlia!"
Without further ado, Dirk steps out from the forest pathway, standing in the thick, untamed forest. "Okay," he says, "coast is clear... for now. Keep close by, watch my back, and squirtle will watch yours."
Kimiko watched as the blue turtle walks past her, standing close behind. Rhyhorn, meanwhile, situates itself in front of Dirk and leads the way further in.
'What do we have to watch out for? It's just a forest.' Kimiko then shrugged it off and continued on.

Kimiko's claim proves true... briefly. The group slowly travel deeper and deeper into the forest. The trees starts towering higher and higher; you're getting into older parts of the forest.
"Viridian Forest actually expands partially into Johto, close to Mount Silver." Dirk says, breaking the silence. "We've found fossils on Mt. Silver before, so we have reason to believe the forested area will hold some, too."
A faint buzzing can be heard in the air, its loudness growing.
