"So... Pewter City... at least I'm finally out of mount moon."
These were the words that he uttered to himself as he walked out of the mountain pass that separated Pewter from Mt. Moon. His feet were weary and his body was tired, the long trek through the mountain had eaten up his last three days. He'd not taken warnings about getting lost in there seriously, and now paid for it by being low on supplies and carrying two very tired pokemon with him. He wanted to find the pokemon center, get a meal and take a nice long afternoon nap to recover his stamina as his pokemon would recover theirs.
He had to walk only a few steps before he saw a very convenient sign pointing him in the right direction. As he walked in, he heaved a relieved sigh of gratitude, walking up to the attendant and handing off his pokemon, before making his way to the kitchen to settle the rumblings of his stomach.

Dirk, sitting alone at one of the tables and munching unenthusiastically on the low quality pokecenter food, sees this new stranger enter. He looks lost and a little unfamiliar to where he is-- Dirk motions for him to sit next to the archeologist for some company.

He didn't really notice anyone else in the room at first, until his eyes happened upon the obvious archeologist. He'd had a long day as it was, and human contact itself was rare for him. Had it not been for his Eevee, he might've gone insane long ago with no one else to talk to. Still, here was someone who at least seemed friendly, though the odd look he gave put him off a bit. Still, a quick chat could never hurt. He took the seat next to him and looked to him.
"Hey there... what's up? You working up at Mt. Moon?"

Dirk chuckles. "I wish! But no, right now I'm not working at all. You'd think there would be more demand for an archeologist, but... well, I'm glad I'm not living in any formal housing place and paying any bills."
He bites unenthusiastically on his pokecenter food. "Look at me now, reduced to eating free pokecenter food." After some more inaudible grumbles, Dirk realizes he's being awfully rude... something of a rarity for him.
"Ah, I'm sorry. What brings you to Pewter?"
