When poliwag evolve into poliwhirl, the path of their large intestines reverses, some scientists believe this is to compensate for the adjustment its skeleton recieves upon gaining arms.
The addition of its new arms gives it the ability to fend off foes easier than when it was an armless poliwag, so this pokémon will venture further from it's habitat than before, but it still needs constant moisture, which it receives from sweating.
Although this pokémon's legs are well developed and it can live easily out on land, it still prefers its home in the water, where it is able to swim.

THE FOOTPRINT OF A POLIWHIRL Like it's pre-evolved form, Poliwhirl are not found in Hoenn or Orre, but can be found in Kanto and Johto.
Starting with Kanto, you can find them on Four Island, Viridian City, Cape Brink, in Cerulean Cave on the first floor, and the first basement level, The entrance to Icefall Cave and in Ruin Valley, and on Routes 6, 9 ,10, 22, 23, 25 & 28. Moving onto Johto, Ecruteak City, Violet City and Mt. Silver, and on Routes 30, 31 & 44.
Poliwhirl are uncommon in Kanto, you'll have to fish around for them, but very common in Johto, you can encounter them while swimming or surfing.

Poliwhirl evolves from Poliwag at level 25. Poliwhirl evolves into Poliwrath after exposing them to a Water Stone. Poliwhirl evolves into Politoed after trading them while they're holding a King's Rock.
