A cool wind blows. The tension is high. Because here, at this plain-old freshwater pond, a hot battle is getting underway!
In the red corner we have Kimiko, with her feebas situated nicely in the pond. In the blue corner is Vei, his magikarp complacently floating at the opposite end. Both pokemon are in the best habitat they could ask for; with their swift swim abilities, their speed is twice as fast in the water as on land.
The pond itself is... not too large. It's very round, with a diameter of only maybe 20 feet. Along the bottom and walls are thick patches of weeds, which sway prettily with the flow of the water.
The judge, a familiar pokemon archaeologist, raises an arm in the air. "BEGIN!"

Vei:
Kimiko:
The battle begins with an intense... uh, staring contest.
Both trainers are quick to shout their commands, but their pokemon are a little... nonresponsive. Melody the feebas is the first to react, and with some hesitation speeds forward with a tackle attack, accelerating through the water.
Magikarp, a dumb look on its face, counters with its own tackle attack. The two rush at each other, building speed, not really bothering to turn.
CRACK.
There's a painful-looking head to head collision, and a large ripple spreads through the water. Magikarp goes twirling up toward the surface, groaning, while feebas spirals downward toward the weedy pond bottom.
And the round ends there!
Status: Both received heavy damage from that collision, but the damage is about equal between them, so nobody has the advantage status-wise yet.
Positions: Magikarp is now floating closer to the surface. Feebas is close to the bottom of the pond, with weeds lightly brushing along its bottomside.

Kimiko:
Vei:
A bit tireless, eh? Both fish exchange glares and then rush at each other, much like before.
The difference between now and then is that Melody, the feebas, was trying to maneuver beneath the magikarp. With a careful curve she places herself below the fish, who apparently isn't interested in going anywhere but a straight line.
Magikarp is in for a nasty surprise, then, when feebas rams into it from below, hitting its tail fin and sending it into a spiral away with a triumphant grin. Magikarp apathetically falls into a patch of tall weeds growing off the pond floor, and the round ends there.
Status: Feebas is much the same as last round; but magikarp now has taken a second hit to the tail fin and took some moderate damage.
Positions: Magikarp is hidden among a patch of weeds on the pond floor, while feebas now floats a bit closer to the pond's surface. She didn't get a good look at where exactly magikarp fell into...

Vei:
Kimiko:
Feebas swims around elusively, making a wide circle around the pond's perimeter and looking for magikarp. Magikarp, shaking off its last hit, swims out from the weeds with a burst of speed, rushing at feebas from below.
Unfortunately, Melody's eyes hadn't been where magikarp came from when it emerged; Melody does hear it, and twists around to tackle it back, but magikarp rams into her faster than she can react; with a squeel she goes flying up, the fins at the top of her head actually slightly poking out from the water's surface when she finally comes to a stop.
And the round ends there!
Status: Magikarp managed to get by without taking any damage this time, feebas got a nasty one. The tables have turned; magikarp's strike was a fair bit more heavy than Melody's last hit, so now it's the red karp who's in the lead. Both may not have much fight left in them, though.
Positions: Melody is floating very, very close to the surface, toward the pond's edge. Magikarp is, right now, right in the center of the pond's depth and width, feeling pretty good about that last strike.

Vei:
Kimiko:
Magikarp, with a fluid motion, pushes himself forward again for a full-on charge attack, much like he's been doing every other round. Melody, in response, swims a bit back, finding the pond's edge and pushing herself off it for added momentum.
There's a bit of an issue, though. Feebas moves with a fin that moves side to side, very different from the vertical motion humans make with their legs to move. It really can't "push off" something quite so well. In the end its tackle isn't much faster than a normal one; and like many times before, both pokemon collide, tackle against tackle.
A heavy ripple is released from the impact, disturbing the pond's smooth surface. Both pokemon go flying backward; magikarp comes to a halt at the pond's opposite end, but feebas slams against the wall it had originally tried to push off of, any semblance of consciousness finally slipping from it.
The battle is over! The winner is Vei and his magikarp!
---
For winning the battle, magikarp is awarded 2 exp points, which promotes it to level 3. Melody gets only 1 exp point for losing, bumping it up to level 2. Normally information about the experience points won't be given, but because this is the first battle I feel it's in order ^^;
