The day is quite relaxed and calm as Lorelei arrives in Pallet Town at the door of the famous Professor Oak. The Oak Ranch is a huge place covering more ground than one would expect since the trainers that leave from Pallet Town send their extra pokemon here to be taken care of and assist in the Professor's work. The rest of the town is very small, perhaps 10 houses or so, mostly people who help Prof. Oak with his research.

Lorelei looks around interestedly, absently tossing her hair back over her shoulders. The small pokemon at her side nudges her in the back of the knee and she crounches down to rub its head.
Lorelei: Well, no need to ask for directions to Professor Oak's lab, I guess. C'mon Splash, let's see if -he- knows what you are.
The small pokemon makes a sound rather like an aquatic puppy as Lorelei straightens, protesting the cessation of being petted. Lorelei laughs a little, and heads toward the lab, the little creature following at her heels.

The door to the Lab will open, showing a neat and orderly building. In this first room, three assistants are running about and putting things into place. Note, disks, you name it. One will stop for a moment as you enter.
Assistant: Hello. May I help you?

Lorelei smiles sunnily at the assistant as her pokemon tries to hide behind her legs.
Lorelei: I came here to see Professor Oak. Could you tell me where I could find him? I found a strange pokemon that no one at home could identify, so I was hoping that he could help me.
Lorelei gestures at the pokemon behind her legs.

The assistant takes a look at the pokemon that seems to be hiding behind Lorelei's legs.
Assistant: I see. Give me a moment and I will tell the Professor you are here. Please feel free to look around if you wish.
Shold you look around, there are many books on pokemon on the shelves, mostly for beginners and basics on how to raise pokemon. A few moments later, the assistant will come back.
Assistant: {rof. Oak says he will be more than happy to see you now. Please follow me.

Lorelei glances wistfully at the books, but instead crouches down and pets Splash for the few minutes until the assisstant returns, the little pokemon cheering up at the attention. When the assistant returns, she straightens and follows him, smiling again.
Lorelei: Thank you for your help.

The assistant smiles and shakes his head.
Assistant: You are welcome. We don't get many visiters with such rare pokemon and Prof. Oak always enjoys seeing new pokemon.
The assistant will lead you to a door and then open it up to show you a decent sized room with an older man sitting at a computer in the corner, pecking away at the computer with two fingers as he mumbles to himself.
Oak: Oddish, Gloom and vileplume are all nocturnal, but Bellosome is a daytime pokemon. So what brings about this chage?

Lorelei scoops her pokemon up in her arms, giving it a quick hug, and carries it over toward the man at the computer. She looks curiously at his computer screen and addresses him politely.
Lorelei: Professor Oak?

The man at the desk will sit up a bit and stutter for a moment before turning around. His greying hair and pleasant smile seem to give him a bit of a stately look even if he is wearing a labcoat.
Oak: You must be the visitor I was told about! As you know, I am Prof. Oak. Welcome to the Oak Ranch. How may I help you today?
His eyes will fall upon the pokemon in her arms and a smile will spread across his face.
Oak: And what a lovely little Mudkip! I haven't seen one in a long time.

Lorelei smiles in relief, glad to have the answer to a question that's been nagging at her for years.
Lorelei: You know what she is? No one in Vermillion City could tell me. That was the problem I hoped you could help me with. Thank you.
Lorelei looks at the Mudkipp, who seems just as pleased that what she is, is finally known.

Prof. Oak gives you a nod and continues to smile.
Oak: I wouldn't be much of a pokemon Professor if I didn't know would I? To be honest, that pokemon is almost never seen out of the Hoenn region. She is a Mudkip, the mudfish pokemon. As she gets stronger she will learn both water and ground based attacks
Prof. Oak will take a moment to inspect over Splash.
Oak: She seems to be well fed and happy. Though the coloration is a bit different...does she seem to sparkle at times?

Lorelei tilts her head to the side, slightly surprised.
Lorelei: Yes...she does. I thought it was just a characteristic of her type.
Lorelei looks down at her Mudkip, her expression thoughtful.

Prof. Oak grins as he shakes his head.
Oak: Not quite...what you have is an even rarer version of an already uncommon pokemon. You are a very lucky young lady to have found such a pokemon.
The computer will beep for a moment and Prof. Oak will turn to it.
Oak: Oh bother..what now?
He takes a moment to read the message on the computer before turning back to Lorelei.
Oak: I'm very sorry to bother you like this, but a friend of mine is arriving in Viridian City today, but I need to finish this speach. Could I ask you to go up to the Pokemon Center in Viridian and bring them back here?

Lorelei gives Professor Oak one of her sunny smiles and Splash seems to be doing her best to imitate the expression.
Lorelei: Sure, its the least I could do since you helped me identify Splash. What's this person's name, and what do they look like?

Pro. Oak turns and brings up an image of a man about his age, also with greying hair though this man has his tied back into a relaxed looking ponytail. His face is a little weathered, but nothing too serious.
Oak: This is a picture of him. He will also have a couple traveling bags with him since he just arrived from Johto today. His name is Prof. Albert Rage.
