CHARACTER CREATION
For the character representing yourself you shall have to roll up the standard stats, but some will have different affects in the pokemon world than the normal world.
At age 18 a character is unrestricted in statistics.
Age 15 a character can have a max Str and Int of 15
Age 13 the Str/Int max is 10/13 (still smarter than your average person)
Age 10 the Str/Int limit is 6/8 (the typical average person)
Strength: Standard stuff, lifting things, how much you can put in yout backpack etc. Termines if you're as stong as a Caterpie or a Machamp.
Dexterity: Also very standard. This pretty much deterimines if you're a clutz or not
Constitution: Affects your own health, how often you get sick, etc. Also affects how long you can wander about in the tall grass without getting tired.
Intelligence: This is pretty much self explainatory.
Wisdom: Also known as common sense.
Charisma: This affects how much your actions are noticed by other people or your pokemon. A high charisma allows a person to to raise friendliness easily and might find that a high powered pokemon actually listens more often than not.
Note that all this is for the human character. the Pokemon themselves get slightly different stats which shall be explained later. The reason why these stats are included is because your pokemon can't do everything for you. Sometimes you have to do things yourself in an RPG.
CHOOSING YOUR STARTING POKEMON
With so many pokemon out there it can be hard to choose sometimes and not everyone has the chance to get a Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle or Pikachu from Professor Oak. On the other side, some pokemon are just to hard to get without already having a pokemon. Common alternate starters are:
Normal: Rattata, Pidgey
Bug: Caterpie, Weedle
Fire: Growlithe, Vulpix
Water: Poliwag, Goldeen
Grass: Oddish, Bellsprout
Of course your starters aren't limited to these either...however if you want something from a different region or something that if much rarer (like Dratini) talk to your DM ( me in this case. I'm always free to be PMed) and make a good background on why you have such a rare pokemon. Something like, "I met him when we were little and we're good friends" just doesn't work. Even Brendon's pokemon Rocky is special for a reason and working with the DM makes for a better and more fun storyline.
